Capital Projects

Science Center
The University is currently conducting a capital campaign to construct a Science Center which will include state-of-the art classroms and laboratories; research centers; common areas for students and faculty to gather, study, and learn.  The Science Center will offer a central location for all of the University's sciences.  Click to view the Science Center's live construction.

DiSepio Institute for Rural Health and Wellness
The DiSepio Institute for Rural Health and Wellness, which opened in spring 2009, was established to provide health promotion and disease prevention services. Students and faculty are able to perform cardiopulmonary, metabolic, musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, and behavioral research and perform their clinical studies while offering health and wellness outreach programs to area residents. The Institute features state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories, research centers and study areas. A clinic and rehabilitation center, strength and condition center, cardio deck, classrooms and research facilities support both students and regional communities. The Institute is also a "green building," using geothermal wells as a natural source of heat for the winter and natural cooling source for the summer, along with other green features.

DeGol Field House
Thanks to the generosity of the Bruno and Lena DeGol family, student-athleties are benefitting from the construction of the fieldhouse which serves as locker room and training facility for the teams that use DeGol Field.  With nearly a third of undergraduate students involved in the NCAA Division I athletics program, the DeGol Field House is one of the newest enhancements which will serve student-athletes.

Sacred Heart Friary
Dedicated and blessed on October 3, 2008 the friary is home to eight of the Franciscan friars who work and minister on campus. The friary, just off Saint Peter Street, faces the original site of the first friary in Loretto, and consists of ten living areas, a common area, dining room, and a chapel. According to Brother Shamus McGrenra, T.O.R., director of international admissions and student services, and a resident at Sacred Heart, "The construction of Sacred Heart establishes community, spirit, and a long-term Franciscan commitment and presence." The University received funding for construction of the friary from the Province of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus T.O.R.

Bach Honors House
Named in honor of Dr. Thomas Bach and his wife Eileen of Johnstown, the Bach Family Honors House was blessed and dedicated in September 2006. The building that once housed the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity has been renovated for academic and residential use by the SFU Honors Program.  The 6,000+ square-foot facility includes a conference room—with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment—for seminars and Honors core courses; a residence for eight Honors students per year; a 24-hour study space for all Honors students; and meeting, lecture and movie space.  Now honors students have a place of their own in which to develop social and academic cohesion through interaction.  “The Bach family exemplifies the Saint Francis mission of service to the community. Their philanthropy will enable us to serve more of the region’s students who aim to pursue academically rigorous programs, many of whom will study for careers of service in our local communities,” said Fr. Zeis.

DeGol Field and Fr. Bede Hines, T.O.R. Track
Dedicated in November of 2005, the multi-purpose artifically surfaced area is used by the University's football, field hockey and lacrosse teams.  The University's men's and women's track and field programs have benefited from the all-weather funning track with field event areas.  The University appreciates the generosity of the Bruno and Lena DeGol Family Foundation.

Endowment
The University is currently raising funds to increase its
endowment and will accept both restricted and unrestricted gifts.
