Dr. G. Steven Neeley, Esq., 52, of Colver, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 14, 2010. Dr. Neeley was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 8, 1957, son of Mildred "Mil" Neeley and George Neeley. He was engaged to his beloved Dr. Gina Makris.
Dr. Neeley was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, fiancé, and his close friends, to include: Dale, Ken, John, Don, Dr. Thomas A. Long, Dr. Nicholas Jones, Jason, Dr. Michael McKale, Dr. Timothy Menta, Grant Julin, Denise, Thomas J. Scruton, Dr. Rosemary Bertocci, Dr. Fran Rohlf, Dr. Arthur Remillard, Dr. Katherine Remillard, Fr. Gabriel Zeis, T.O.R., Fr. Malachi Van Tassell, T.O.R., Dr. John MacIntosh, Dr. Timothy Whisler, and all the Cincinnati friends and Colver friends.
Dr. Neeley was Professor of Philosophy at St. Francis University, where he has taught since 1993. Dr. Neeley took his undergraduate degree from Xavier University ('80), and his J.D. ('85), M.A. ('87), and Ph.D. ('89) from the University of Cincinnati. He published over twenty articles and two books on a wide range of topics, to include Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Sartre, constitutional law, bio-medical ethics, and philosophical psychotherapy. His law article "The Psychological and Emotional Abuse of Children" was cited by the State of Wyoming's Supreme Court in 2002. Dr. Neeley belonged to the American Philosophical Association, the North American Schopenhauer Society, the West Virginia Philosophical Society, and the Pennsylvania State Bar. At St. Francis, he was an exemplary professor and colleague. He won the Swatsworth award in 1997, the Honor Society Distinguished Faculty Award in 1994, the Student Government Association Teacher of the Year award in 2004, 2006, and 2009, and he won the American Philosophical Association Excellence in Teaching award in 1998.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, March 18 in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at St. Francis University. Friends will be received from 5:30-6:45 PM with a service to follow at 7 PM.
