Saint Francis hosts award-winning Italian guitar virtuoso as artist in residence; concert to be held on January 31
Italian guitar virtuoso, Paolo Schianchi, will be Saint Francis University’s Artist in Residence for the spring 2012 semester. Schianchi, an extraordinary guitarist, will perform a concert on Tuesday January 31, at 8pm on campus in the JFK Auditorium. The event is open to the community and admission is free.
Schianchi is considered to be one of the greatest Italian musicians of his generation. He is a musician, composer, researcher, and inventor who plays all existing variations of the guitar. He has received numerous national and international awards both as guitarist and composer. He writes music for both solo guitar and various orchestral ensembles.
Schianchi has been performing in concerts and teaching internationally at a number of schools and academies. He has been invited to hold master classes in prestigious schools and universities, such as the Duke Ellington School of Arts in Washington D.C.
The Italian musician will be the first ever Artist in Residence at Saint Francis. He will be teaching classes and playing concerts on campus from January until May 2012.
