Nursing Program

Nursing - A Message from the Chair

Rita Trofino

Welcome to the Saint Francis University Department of Nursing. Our nursing program is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. We offer small classes that offer opportunities to find mentors, obtain personal guidance from instructors, and develop strong working relationships with classmates.

This is an exciting time to be interested in nursing. The demand for registered nurses is high and leads to exciting career opportunities. A registered nurse commands an excellent salary in a wide range of settings. At Saint Francis University, we are preparing students for general professional nursing practice who will become leaders in the profession and contribute to the advancement of health care. Once you earn your bachelor’s degree in nursing at Saint Francis University, you are eligible to take the RN licensure examination, the NCLEX-RN®.

The nursing profession offers great flexibility. Opportunities exist in many specialty areas, such as medical-surgical nursing, geriatric nursing, pediatric nursing, home nursing, intensive care unit nursing, obstetrical nursing, emergency room nursing, occupational health nursing, psychiatric nursing, nursing informatics, and nursing administration. The baccalaureate nursing curriculum provides a foundation for graduate education. After entering the workforce, many of our graduates continue on with their graduate education and become nurse practitioners, nurse educators, nurse anesthetists, and clinical nurse leaders.

Thank you for taking the time to read about the Department of Nursing. If you would like to speak to me, please do not hesitate to contact me at 814-472-3027. I welcome your comments and questions regarding our nursing program.
