Federal Work Study/Campus Employment

Federal Work Study (FWS) - Students must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FASFA to be considered for FWS. Student employment positions are available on localweb.francis.edu. Click on Student Information (on the left side of the screen). Then click on Campus Job Listings (under Support Services). Students must find their own jobs. No student is guaranteed a job. Employers are made aware of students who are eligible for FWS and these students are to be given priority in the hiring process. A maximum of twenty hours (20) per week may be worked during periods of enrollment. The current wage rate is $7.25/hour. Students are paid on a monthly basis for the number of hours worked. Pay schedules and time sheets are available in the Financial Aid Office.

Summer Eligibility:

Summer employment is based on the discretion of department. Students carrying 3 or more credits may work a maximum of 20 hours per week when classes are in session. When classes are out of session, they may work up to 35 hours per week (again, based on the discretion of the department they are employed).

How to find a job:

1.  Check to see if you qualify for work study (noted on your Financial Aid Package).

2.  Complete your paperwork: during check-in before classes start in August or in the Financial Aid Office (Padua 228).  These forms must be completed before you can receive a paycheck:

  • Form I-9
  • Form W-4
  • A copy of your photo ID and your signed social security card

3.  Look and listen for potential jobs: it’s your responsibility to find a job.  Some examples of areas with work study positions include:

  • Academic departments
  • Administrative departments (Computer Services, Admissions/Financial Aid, Registrar)
  • Student services departments (Campus Post Office, ACE, Frankies/Torvian, Athletics)

4.  Each month, you must submit your time sheets to the Financial Aid Office.  A monthly paycheck will be issued based off of the hours worked.
