Welcome to the Saint Francis University Department of Mathematics. Our department provides an exceptional education for our students. We provide our students with the skills, knowledge, and the values they need to succeed in the workforce or in graduate school. Our mathematics curriculum contains various concentrations to give our students the choice of study that meets their interest.
The following is a brief description of the concentrations we offer: | Dr. Ying Li Dr. Brendon LaBuz Dr. Norbert Youmbi
- Our Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Mathematics are designed to offer a solid background in mathematics. This concentration gives the most freedom to pursue more intense mathematical studies or a broad background in liberal arts. Students who are planning to futher their education in mathematics may want to consider this concentration.
- Our Mathematics and Computer Science double major and Mathematics major with a minor in Computer Science combines a solid core of mathematics courses with computer science courses. The computer science courses provide the necessary computer science skills while the mathematics courses prepares the students for intricate computer modeling.
- Our Applied Mathematics curriculum provides students with training in both the theory of discrete mathematics as well as in applications such as discrete optimization used in network/system design, algorithm analysis and other areas. This concentration will also help students prepare for graduate studies in applied math, as well as other future endeavors.
- Our Actuarial Science Concentration prepares students to become actuaries. An actuary studies future risks in insurance, finance, and business. Actuaries are required to know mathematics, economics, and finance.
- Our Mathematics- Secondary Education concentration prepares students to become middle or high school mathematics teachers. Upon graduating from Saint Francis University, graduates will have the mathematical education along with the classroom experience needed to become successful in their teaching career.
